Custom Marketplace Platform

A two-sided marketplace with vendor onboarding, payments, reviews, search, trust features, moderation and operational admin workflows.

Custom Marketplace Platform – CodeixLab

CodeixLab built the foundations of a two-sided marketplace: vendor onboarding, buyer discovery, payments, trust signals, reviews and admin moderation. The goal was a platform both sides could rely on from launch, with operations tooling that holds up under daily use.

Project overview

The challenge

A marketplace has to serve two sides without letting either side damage trust. Vendors need onboarding and profile tools that do not feel like paperwork. Buyers need search, clear listings and confidence that what they pay for will arrive. Operators need moderation, dispute visibility and payment oversight.

Most marketplace projects stumble in the same places: payments that drift out of sync with orders, reviews that can be gamed, and admin screens that are little more than database tables. Each of those becomes a support problem the day real money starts moving.

Our approach

Core mechanics first

The build started with the mechanics every marketplace needs: listing ownership, vendor onboarding, searchable catalogue pages, review moderation, Stripe payment flows and admin dashboards. Extra features were deferred until these were solid.

Durable records for every workflow

Each workflow, from a vendor signing up to a refund being issued, creates a durable record. Support and operations staff can always see what happened, when and why, instead of reconstructing events from logs.

Payments aligned with provider events

Payment architecture listens to Stripe events and reconciles them with orders and payouts, so the marketplace’s own records never disagree with the payment provider.

Fast, server-rendered UI

Hotwire keeps pages fast and interactive without a heavy single-page app, which helps both search engine visibility and performance on mobile networks.

Key features

  • Vendor onboarding that collects enough data without overloading sellers
  • Searchable catalogue with filters and clear listing pages
  • Stripe checkout, split payments and payout tracking
  • Reviews, moderation and verified profile details
  • Dispute visibility and refund handling for operators
  • Admin tooling designed for repeated daily use, not just CRUD screens

Engineering decisions that mattered

  • Trust is a feature: verification, moderation and review rules were designed alongside listings, not added later.
  • Reconciliation over assumptions: payment state follows provider events, which prevents silent mismatches.
  • Operator experience: the admin console was treated as a product in its own right.

What this means for your project
